NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our growing Special Inspections and Construction Services team in North Florida and South Georgia. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, institutional, transportation, and infrastructure projects throughout the region.


This position involves significant travel throughout North Florida and the Florida Panhandle, with a primary focus on projects in and around Tallahassee. Candidates should be comfortable spending substantial time at project sites, fabrication facilities, and construction locations. Travel-related expenses are reimbursed in accordance with company policy.


As a CWI, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and code compliance of structural steel and welded components used in buildings, bridges, and other vital infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a motivated professional with strong technical expertise, a commitment to quality, and the ability to effectively communicate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural steel and welding inspections in accordance with AWS, AISC, FDOT, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
  • Conduct special inspections on a variety of construction projects involving structural steel, bridges, reinforced concrete, masonry, and related materials.
  • Verify compliance with approved construction documents, contract specifications, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Review fabrication and erection procedures, welding procedures (WPS), welder qualifications, and related documentation.
  • Perform and document visual welding inspections during fabrication and field erection activities.
  • Conduct or oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, including Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and other methods as required.
  • Identify deficiencies, non-conforming work, and quality concerns, and communicate findings clearly to project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, fabricators, and project managers to resolve field issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Prepare detailed daily field reports, inspection reports, and supporting documentation using NOVA's reporting systems.
  • Review project plans, specifications, shop drawings, and code requirements to ensure proper inspection coverage.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with project quality standards and safety requirements.
  • Assist project managers in coordinating inspection schedules and maintaining excellent client relationships.
  • Maintain certifications and technical knowledge related to welding inspection, special inspections, and quality assurance practices.


Required:

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Structural steel and/or bridge inspection experience.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC standards, and applicable construction codes.
  • Experience reviewing construction plans, specifications, welding procedures, and fabrication documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor construction environments and travel locally to project sites.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.


Preferred:

  • Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Shear Wave certification.
  • Level II Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) certification.
  • ICC Special Inspector certifications (Structural Welding & Structural Steel & Bolting)
  • FDOT, DOT, transportation, or bridge construction experience.
  • Additional NDT certifications such as PT or RT.
  • Experience with fabrication shop inspections and structural steel erection inspections.
  • Familiarity with reinforced concrete and masonry special inspections.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Welding Technology, or a related field.
