We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Mental Health Medical Billing Specialist to join our team and help ensure the financial health of our practice. This role is also combined with an Administrative Assistant position to assist with daily operations of the business.
Position Summary:
A Medical Billing Specialist role is responsible for managing all aspects of the revenue cycle specific to mental health services. This includes coding, billing, claim submission, denial management, and patient account resolution. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mental health procedures, modifiers, and insurance guidelines to maximize reimbursement and ensure compliance.
The Administrative Assistant roleserves as the backbone of day-to-day operations, supporting clinicians, managing workflows, and helping maintain an organized, functional, and thoughtfully designed office environment.
Key Responsibilities of Billing/Coding Role:
- Accurately review and code mental health claims
- Submit clean claims to commercial and government payers via clearinghouse or EMR
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid or denied claims
- Correct and resubmit rejected claims in a timely manner
- Verify patient insurance benefits and coverage for mental health services and procedures
- Work with patients on outstanding balances and set up payment arrangements when necessary
- Coordinate with providers, clinical staff, and front office to resolve billing discrepancies
- Stay up to date with payer policies and mental health-specific coding changes
- Generate weekly and monthly billing reports as requested
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Key Responsibilities of Administrative Assistant role
- Responding to emails, phone calls, and client inquiries
- Scheduling intakes and ongoing appointments for clinicians
- Welcoming and checking in clients upon arrival
- Assisting with onboarding paperwork and client file management
- Supporting clinicians and leadership with general administrative tasks
- Overseeing day-to-day office needs and operations
- Managing office supplies, organization, and basic operational needs
- Assisting with office setup projects, including organizing spaces, and coordinating décor updates
- Coordinating with outside vendors or service providers as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and HIPAA compliance
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Familiarity with commercial and government insurance payers, including Medicare and Medicaid
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred Skills:
- Mental Health specific coding and billing experience
- Proficiency in EHR systems; ideally Simple Practice
- Experience with appeals and insurance authorization processes
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
