What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barista / Cashier (Weekends) position at Nourish Cafe?
We are looking for a weekend (Sat & Sun, 7:30am-4pm each day) barista/cashier for our team at our location in Nob Hill (1030 Hyde Street). At Nourish Cafe, we are passionate about health, teamwork, and our neighborhood. We take a lot of pride in what we do, and want to provide top-notch service and healthy, delicious, high-quality food. We are 100% plant-based / vegan so we use alternative milks such as almond milk, coconut milk and oat milk in our barista program.
The position pays $18 per hour plus tips and includes health benefits (HealthySF) after 90 days, employee discount, and optional participation in a 401k program. The position requires weekend shifts on Saturday AND Sunday (7:30am-2pm). If you cannot work those shifts, please do not apply for this position.
About the Nourish Cafe team
Nourish Cafe is owned by Brighton Miller and Sarah Bacon, and the first location was opened in 2015 in the Richmond District. Head Chef Brighton Miller is a professionally trained natural chef. Bacon is an entrepreneur and General Manager at Nourish, focused on the business and operations of the cafe.
Responsibilities:
- Cash and credit card handling functions
- Assisting customers with their purchases including having a very thorough knowledge of our menu, ingredients, and how dishes are prepared
- Preparation of espresso drinks, drip coffee and tea (training will be provided)
- Operate a tablet-based POS system (training will be provided
- Ensure customers are waited on quickly, efficiently and in a pleasant manner
- Ensure take out orders are taken promptly and in a courteous manner, and delivered to the customer accurately
- Answer the phone and take orders
- Demonstrate a positive, helpful attitude as well as presenting professional conduct and appearance at all times
- Run food to dine-in customers
- Manage the front of house while on duty including restocking cutlery, napkins, condiments, baked goods etc. and ensure tables are clean
- Manage opening and closing procedures for the front of house including cash drawer management, thorough cleaning (front of house and bathroom), baked good storage, espresso machine cleaning etc.
- Any other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- At least 6 months experience working front of house in a café or restaurant setting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- A strong multitasker
- Ability to work independently
- An interest in healthy food and sharing that with others
- A willingness and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment
- A positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and pride in what you do
At Nourish Cafe, we’re looking for team players that are kind, respectful, work hard and work well with others. If you refuse to take out the trash, clean tables or clean the restroom on occasion – or don’t like dealing with customers – this is not the job for you.
