QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Social Sciences, or related field
- Demonstrated ability to design engaging, student-centered instruction
- Strong understanding of adolescent learning and development
- Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Ability to build relationships and create a positive classroom environment
- Experience integrating experiential and interdisciplinary learning
- Ability to use data to inform instruction and support student growth
- Commitment to collaboration, reflection, and professional growth
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Instruction & Curriculum
Instruction & Curriculum
- Teaches AP World History and World History II using engaging, rigorous, and student-centered instructional practices
- Designs and implements lesson plans aligned with standards and Sion Success Outcomes
- Integrates critical thinking, discussion, and analysis into daily instruction
- Uses data, including ACT benchmarks, to inform instruction and support student growth
Experiential & Interdisciplinary Learning
- Designs and teaches a two-week place-based experiential Deep Dive course
- Collaborates with faculty across disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Connects course content to real-world issues and current events
Collaboration & Program Development
- Works with the Social Studies Instructional Lead to refine and strengthen the Social Studies program
- Participates in department and school-wide curriculum development
- Engages in ongoing professional learning and instructional improvement
Faculty Responsibilities
- Maintains accurate attendance, grading, and student records
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Provides supervision at school activities and events
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Principal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
