Position: Student Assistant- Reference Assistant and Support Mentor (RASM)

Department: Academic Success Center

Reports To: Dean of Student Academic Success

Status: Part-time/ 12-20 hours per week

Location: Onsite (required)

Salary: $25.00/hr.

General Description:

The Academic Success Center (ASC) seeks motivated, compassionate, and ambitious NDNU graduate students who are champions of diversity, equity, and inclusivity to join a dynamic and diverse group of professional difference-makers.

Working primarily at the library front desk, the Graduate Student Reference Assistant and Support Mentor will be a key ambassador for the ASC. The RASM will provide direct support to NDNU students on all aspects of the research process, including but not limited to the following: developing information literacy, crafting effective research questions, utilizing library databases and services, integrating research into papers and presentations, citing sources in APA style, and more.

This position requires greeting all library guests and working one-on-one with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition, the RASM will work with other ASC staff to design and deliver workshops and small-group activities on relevant topics connected to the mission of the Academic Success Center.

In addition, successful candidates will complete a rigorous training program that will equip them with the tools they need to serve first-generation, multilingual, and international students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in and successfully complete a rigorous in-person and online training program; continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the training program.
  • Provide direct one-to-one research support.
  • Design, revise, and deliver workshops and small-group support on relevant topics.
  • Act as an ambassador for the ASC and library, applying the spirit of diversity, equity, and inclusion for a better sense of belonging and welcome by all students.
  • Design and deliver workshops, special events, reading groups, and other activities that celebrate NDNU's diverse community.
  • Run the library's front desk and welcome students and all library guests; perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all student interactions, adhering to ASC protocols and best practices.
  • Attend and participate in ASC team meetings. 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at NDNU
  • Completed at least one semester (2 courses) of graduate coursework. 
  • Positive reference from at least two professors or staff members at NDNU
  • Have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to applying the spirit of diversity, equity, and inclusion to provide excellent service. 
  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching is desirable.

Working Conditions: 

  • Evening and night hours (weekday)
    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (a combination of days for hours)
    • 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm
