Position Title: Student Assistant- Graduate Student Success Mentor
Department: Academic Affairs - E3@NDNU Project
Status: Part-time, 20 hours per week max
Salary: $25.00/hr.
Summary:
The Graduate Student Success Mentor provides social-emotional and professional skills training and support to new graduate students and degree completion students. This support includes developing and delivering workshops, designing engaging resources on relevant topics, and guiding students through their journey at NDNU (campus resource guidance, personal/professional goals, and technical issues). The ideal candidate is a motivated and organized student with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who enjoys helping others. As a student leader, the mentor will be expected to meet (in-person and/or online) with mentees regularly, and complete administrative tasks in a timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support to graduate students in a variety of topics and skills
- Assess student needs and make referrals to appropriate NDNU support offices/centers for in-depth support
- Maintain accurate records of all student interactions (one-to-one meetings, group sessions, email, etc.)
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development activities and training
- Coach and mentor incoming graduate students on their academic and professional journey
- Assist graduate students with navigating campus resources, software, and interfaces, including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Canvas, Campus Portal, Handshake, and library databases
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program at NDNU
- Completed at least one semester (2 courses) of graduate coursework
- Positive reference from at least one professor or staff member at NDNU
- Have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience working with relevant campus software and interfaces
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to providing excellent service
- Experience in coaching and/or mentoring students is desirable.
