- Summary
The Secondary Math Coach is a teacher-leader who supports high-quality
mathematics instruction and improved student outcomes through direct instruction, coaching, collaboration, and data-driven practices. This role includes teaching, interventions, and job-embedded instructional support to teachers.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Instructional Leadership
- Plan and deliver lessons that model effective, standards aligned mathematics instruction.
- Demonstrate best practices in lesson design, student engagement, differentiation, and formative assessment.
- Maintain a classroom environment that reflects high expectations and equitable practices.
Coaching & Teacher Support
- Provide job-embedded coaching through co-planning, co-teaching, classroom observation, and feedback.
- Collaborate with individual teachers and teams to develop and refine instructional strategies.
- Support new, developing, and veteran math teachers through mentoring and targeted assistance.
- Facilitate reflective practice to improve instructional effectiveness.
Professional Learning & PLC Facilitation
- Plan and lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on student learning, instructional strategies, and curriculum alignment.
- Design and deliver professional learning aligned to school and district priorities.
- Support teachers in unpacking standards and developing aligned lessons and assessments.
Data-Driven Instruction
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends, learning gaps, and instructional next steps.
- Support teachers in using data to inform instruction, interventions, and enrichment.
- Monitor and support the effectiveness of instructional strategies and interventions.
Collaboration & Program Support
- Collaborate with the Math Supervisor to align coaching work with district goals and initiatives.
- Support implementation of curriculum, assessments, and instructional resources.
- Foster a collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and student success.
- Serve as a liaison among teachers, administration, and district leadership.
III. Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience:
Master’s Degree or Master’s Equivalent in related fields required. Must be a tenured employee with satisfactory teaching experience. NBCT preferred.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current Advanced Professional Maryland State Teaching Certificate. National Board Certified Teacher, preferred.
- Language Skills:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
- Other Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of instructional best practices, data analysis, and curriculum design.
Ability to assess instructional needs and apply coaching strategies appropriately.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Ability to motivate, coach, and support adult learners.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
