What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pathfinder Games Event Coordinator position at Not A Very Good Teacher?
A current CAC card or unescorted military installation access is required at time of hire.
Adigeni LLC, operating as NAVGT (Not A Very Good Teacher), is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. We make games that connect military-connected kids with pathways, mentors, and the organizations that serve them — and we bring those games to life through Pathfinder Games, a live event series for kids and their families.
We have run more than ten events across the National Capital Region: on military installations, at youth centers and USO centers, in public libraries and elementary schools, at community festivals, and at Bring Your Child to Work Day at the Pentagon. Sometimes it is our own event; sometimes we run a Pathfinder Games station inside a much larger one.
An event has two parts. The first is a tournament built around one of our games — usually the Mission Match card game, sometimes a physical-activity game — with timed rounds and a scoreboard. The second is Mini-Missions: partner organizations such as Young Marines, Sea Cadets, Scouts, and STEM groups each run a short challenge at their table, and kids collect stamps in a passport as they complete them. Points from both add up, and the day ends with certificates and sponsor prizes. Scale varies — some events are a dozen kids and one partner, some are a full room and fifteen or more organizations.
We need someone to run these on the ground.
This is a part-time, per-event engagement at a firm fixed price: $300 per full event and $150 per Mini event, covering preparation, the event day, and a short recap. It is not salaried or hourly.
We have multiple engagements scheduled across the fall and are looking for someone who can step into them quickly and stay with the series. Events are scheduled weeks in advance. If it works well on both sides we would expect to keep working together on future events, though nothing beyond the events you agree to is promised.
What the role involves
Before the event: coordinate with the host point of contact (installation youth center, USO, library, or school), confirm partner organizations and brief them on their Mini-Mission, and prepare materials — games, passports, signage, scoreboard, prizes
On the day: lead setup and check-in, assign groups, run tournament rounds on the clock, keep kids moving through the Mini-Mission stations, hand out certificates and prizes, and tear down
Direct volunteers at stations
Record participant counts and scores, collect photo consent, and capture a few photos and quotes
Send a short written recap, and help turn what works into a repeatable run-of-show for future events
Represent NAVGT to installation staff, partner organizations, and parents
Planning is done from home on your own schedule. Event dates are known well ahead. Experience running unit family events, FRG functions, youth programs, or volunteer days maps directly onto this — a formal job title is not required. You would report to the Director of Operations.
If you already hold a CAC or have unescorted base access through your sponsor or your own employment, you are exactly who we are looking for.
When you apply, please state your current base access status — CAC, installation pass, or other unescorted access — and which installations it covers.
