Job Title: Service – Outboard Technician
Overview: The technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, rigging and installations as efficiently and safely as possible while ensuring quality work.
Accountable To: Service Manager
Responsibilities:
- Providing clear documentation of service in the form of the 3 C’s (concern, cause, and correction) and time tracking
- Keeping work area, tools and boats clean and organized
- Experience with either Mercury, Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki outboard services
- Performing proper diagnostic procedures, complete preventative maintenance services and repairs for Outboards
- Utilizing computer-based diagnostics, tech manuals, service bulletins, and training materials, etc.
- Following proper shop processes and procedures
- Staying within approved or ‘normal’ job time frames and communicating any unusual delays with the advisor
- Proactively looking for value added service that can increase the hours per repair order and keep the boat in top condition
- Documenting and communicating any additional work needed
- Ensuring work is approved prior to beginning, unless minor, and also of a safety and/or urgent nature
- Returning warranty parts properly and promptly to warranty manager
- Submitting a complete parts request to the parts department with all boat information needed to acquire correct parts
- Performing proper & factory-correct repair procedures
- Quality checking each repair
- Removing all tools, rags, etc. from boat
- Cleaning as you work and alert service advisors to any cleaning issues they need to address
- Being aware of time approved on the job
- Assisting the service advisor in explaining work to customers or getting an explanation of customer’s concern when communication is challenged
- Returning all paperwork, keys, and boat to the proper place when finished
- Informing management of any broken, damaged, worn, or dangerous conditions, parts, or equipment
- Striving for 100% customer satisfaction through fixing things right the first time
Preferred Candidate:
- Physically able to handle rigors of job in almost any weather condition & lift up to 50 lbs
- Have a valid automobile driver’s license
- Prior boating or mechanical experience is a plus
- Ability to obtain Marine Technical Certifications
- Being reliable, punctual, and respecting of fellow team members
- Be drug-free with willingness and ability to pass initial drug screening
- Works well with others to execute various tasks efficiently and without supervision
- Spanish is a plus
- Must be able to work overtime in-season
- Hours:
- Year round, in season Spring thru Fall 5 – 6 days per week, 7:30am – 4pm
- In-Season (April – July, September – November) must be willing to work weekends and after hours as needed
- Department is closed for 2 weeks starting late December to early January
- This closed time is eligible for CT unemployment compensation and/or vacation time
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly rate based on experience $25/hr - $35/hr
