Norwalk Schools is seeking candidates for a Transportation Paraeducator to assist students with transportation services for the 2026-2027 school year. Anticipated hours for this position are weekdays from 6:30 to 9:30 and 12:30 to 4:30, with adjusted hours on early out Wednesdays.

Position: Transportation Paraeducator
Reports to: Transportation Director
Position Purpose: The transportation paraeducator will assist the transportation staff by assisting in the transportation of students in a safe, orderly, and timely manner.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists students to seats and appropriately secures students in child restraint systems and wheelchair restraint systems if necessary.
- Assists driver with maintaining discipline on the bus, van or suburban.
- Assists driver with emergency bus, van or suburban evacuation if necessary.
- Provides information on the bus, van or suburban route to substitute drivers on an as needed basis.
- Understands and abides by confidentiality mandates.
- Assists students as needed.
- Understands and is able to use the wheelchair lift on the bus as needed.
- Maintains data on students as required.
- Fosters effective communication with students, parents, and other staff members. Informs Transportation Director and Administration with concerns about behaviors or incidents.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising staff.
