*Sensitivity to the issues of Domestic Violence/Abuse, Sexual Assault/Abuse, Human Sex Trafficking.

*Knowledge of, or experience in, Domestic/Sexual Abuse crisis intervention.

*Ability to provide individual supportive emotional counseling and advocacy to domestic violence victims, rape victims, adult intra-familial sexual abuse victims, adult sexual molestation victims, child sexual assault/abuse victims, human sex trafficking victims and elder abuse victims.

*Sensitivity to cultural differences

*Effective organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).

*Ability to maintain confidentiality.

*Ability to relate to clients in a supportive, non-judgmental manner.

*Ability to provide equitable services to all clients.

*Ability to accurately compile reports by deadlines.

*Must be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.

*Ability to work together with other staff in a team effort to achieve common goals concerning clients and the efficient running of shelter programs, including VOCA projects.

*Willing to be flexible for emergency staff coverage (vacation/sick leaves).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete the following training:
  • Understanding the dynamics of domestic abuse victims, adult rape victims, adult intra-familial sexual abuse victims, adult sexual molestation victims, child sexual assault/abuse victims, and elder abuse victims.
  • The philosophy of empowerment of domestic abuse and sexual assault victims.
  • Appropriate trauma care.
  • Victimization issues.
  • Crisis intervention issues.
  • Short term emotional supportive counseling objectives.
  • Long term emotional supportive counseling objectives.
  • Secondary victimization.
  • Social services needed.
  • Crisis counseling and listening skills.
  • Policies and procedures of programming.
  • Overview of community resources.
  • Information on laws and legal procedures.
  • Information on providing sensitive and appropriate services to special populations.
  • Importance of confidentiality.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide telephone crisis intervention, completing a written record immediately following crisis call on the Telephone/Communication Log and client file as appropriate.
  • Document all crisis, information and referral calls.
  • Perform the New Day Advocacy Center shelter intake process when having the initial face-to-face meeting with a new client. Perform Bed Bug Prevention Process.
  • Compile a client file and document all services provided in file.
  • Provide domestic/sexual abuse services for all client referrals to the program, including crisis intervention, supportive emotional counseling, safety planning, help with preparing victim statements, and information and referrals.
  • Meet with new clients to discuss crime victim rights and the Crime Victim Compensation Assistance benefits and application process.
  • Work with child victims of crime to restore self-esteem and culture resiliency.
  • Ensure that all files, data, and information regarding clients are maintained in a strict confidential and organized manner.
  • Assist in development and on-going evaluation of written program materials such as: client intake forms, program/client evaluation forms, brochures, newsletter articles, newspaper articles, and public information releases.
  • Compile client/telephone call data as requested by Data Input Advocate by requested deadline.
  • Participate in relevant work related training/education.
  • Inform clients about Crime Victim Compensation Assistance benefits, and assist crime victim clients with completion of Crime Victim Compensation applications and follow-up.
  • Maintain referral and literature files for use by shelter staff and volunteers.
  • Perform other duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the VOCA Project.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
  • Oversee the agency/shelter facility operation and perform assigned cleaning/maintenance duties for the day of the week you are working. See posted list of assigned Daily Weekend/Evening Cleaning and Organizing Task List.
  • Answer the door when the doorbell rings after viewing visitor in person or by checking the security cameras.
  • Receive and document delivered client donations, and place in appropriate storage area. Perform Bed Bug Prevention Process & Donation Process.
  • Assists with the cleaning of bedrooms if departing clients do not perform these tasks.

*$250 Sign on Bonus given upon completion of probationary period.
