POSITION: Second Shift Custodian/Bus Driver
*Bus Driving has separate job description. The District will help with procurement but needs to be completed within 6 months of hire.
REPORTS TO: Facilities Operations Co-Leads
GENERAL FUNCTION: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining areas of the building as assigned; setup and take down before, during, and after school activities; perform minor repairs; and promote a positive public image of the Northwood School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Maintain and be accountable for clean and safe spaces as assigned.
● Setup, monitor, and close out daily activities as required.
- Check daily activity sheet.
- Have activity areas setup prior to scheduled events/activities.
- Prioritize tasks based on public events and/or District needs.
● Assist in the development of a written work schedule that ensures assigned spaces will be appropriately maintained, cleaned, and disinfected daily and/or weekly, as needed.
● Use the appropriate equipment including ladder/lift machine to clean ceilings, light fixtures, and perform light bulb changing.
● Report needed maintenance and safety concerns to the Head of Maintenance.
● Perform minor repairs as needed and/or required.
● During inclement weather keep doors and walkways free of ice and snow.
● Maintain all safety standards in performing duties (i.e., physical safety, emergencies, chemicals, wet areas.)
● Ensure security as activities dictate, including ensuring all outside doors are locked in areas of responsibility.
● Understand and follow all District safety protocols and procedures including but not limited to work- related safety, fire and tornado drills, ALICE procedures, etc.
● All other tasks or duties assigned by the Head of Maintenance, Administration, or Board.

● Comply with federal, state, local, and district mandates concerning emergency procedures.
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Ability to routinely work up to 8 hour shifts, flexible hours when needed. For part-time employees, the hours during the school year are typically (5) 5-hour days or (4) 7-hour days.
● Turn in required time-sheets demonstrating weekly hours worked.
● Ability to lift 75 lbs. on occasion and 40 lbs. regularly, without physically straining body.
● Ability to regularly stand, walk, and/or sit and occasionally reach above shoulders, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
● Vision abilities needed include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
● Work cooperatively with all school personnel, families and students while maintaining a professional attitude and demeanor.
● Maintain a cheerful and positive attitude when in contact with the public, guests, school personnel, and students.
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Hold a valid driver’s license.
● Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws.
● Know, understand and follow District guidelines as set forth for the assigned position, employee handbook, and District policies.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy
3122.01 throughout his/her employment in the District.
Use of personal communication devices (PCD’s) has become pervasive in the workplace. In compliance with
Policy 7530.02 Staff and School Officials use of Personal Communication Devices, employees are responsible for using the device(s) in a safe and appropriate manner. Personal emails, social networking and other forms of electronic communication should only take place outside of instructional time.
