Position Summary
The Kids Director creates safe, engaging, and discipleship-focused environments where elementary-aged children are known, loved, and growing in their faith. This role develops leaders and partners with parents to help children take meaningful steps toward knowing Jesus and making Him known.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Kids Gathering Experiences (Environment & Engagement): Design environments on Sunday (and mid-week) where every kid can understand and respond to God.

Position Summary
The Kids Director creates safe, engaging, and discipleship-focused environments where elementary-aged children are known, loved, and growing in their faith. This role develops leaders and partners with parents to help children take meaningful steps toward knowing Jesus and making Him known.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Kids Gathering Experiences (Environment & Engagement): Design environments on Sunday (and mid-week) where every kid can understand and respond to God.
- Oversee all Sunday and mid-week Kids environments
- Create engaging experiences that include:
- Worship
- Teaching
- Interaction
- Response/application
- Community and Fun
- Train leaders to engage in every aspect of the gathering.
- Ensure the curriculum and any tool/resource help engage kids with the mission of Northwood and our family ministry vision.
- Oversee gathering flow: (ex. check-in → large group → small group → response → pickup→ follow up)
- Lead and/or develop team huddles and service preparation.
- Equip and empower a team of coaches and team members to serve the kids ministry environments.
- Follow best safety practices and protocols for all kids' environments.
- Ensure every child is connected to a consistent small group leader each week.
- Equip leaders to lead intentional discipleship conversations, not just supervise.
- Oversee small group structure, leader assignments, and group assignments.
- Ensure clear follow-up and connection pathways for new or unconnected families.
- Implement curriculum, tools, and small group time that introduces simple biblical truths in engaging, repeatable ways.
- Recruit, train, onboard, and provide continual training according to Northwood policy and pipeline.
- Facilitate regular training and one-on-one coaching sessions for staff and leaders, and provide support for the team both personally and professionally, so every staff and volunteer is seen, valued, developed, and appreciated.
- Equip leaders to disciple kids spiritually, not just supervise
- Actively encourage leaders to maintain a balance between their ministry service and attending services with their own families.
- Review and enforce all safety, security, and check-in/out practices on a strict, scheduled basis.
- Weekly communication to equip team members with guides, content, and lessons for ministry.
- Develop consistent communication rhythms with parents
- Provide tools and resources to reinforce faith at home
- Ensure a clear, welcoming first-time family experience and a follow-up process.
- Build relational trust between parents and leaders
- Communicate what kids are learning and how they are growing
- Support key faith milestones (salvation, baptism, spiritual habits)
- Create opportunities for parent connection and community
- Oversee scheduling, classroom structure, and staffing needs
- Manage the Kids ministry budget and expenses
- Facilitate team meetings, huddles, and communication rhythms
- Participate in requested staff meetings.
- Attend trainings, retreats, and conferences as needed

- Build and steward a healthy ministry budget.
- Collaborate with the Administration on yearly expenditure projections.
- Submit a yearly budget for the Department
- Make sound financial decisions based on budget allowances and good stewardship of available funds
- Delegate responsibilities to your team and /or volunteers as needed.
- Develop/secure curriculum and supplies for age-appropriate learning.
- Weekly area meetings outlining schedules, conflicts, and expectations of your team.
- Weekly check-in/dept meeting with your staff to clearly understand current projects and personal support you can provide.
Personal Development
- Pursue development through training, coaching networks, and resources to aid in both personal and spiritual development.
- Ensure a healthy work-life balance for you and your team.
- Ensure your team is supported to complete assigned tasks.
- Use and report time off according to NW P&P
- Facilitate adequate staffing for ministry needs via staff or volunteers
Communication
- Effectively communicate the vision and core values to your team and volunteers
- Report any issues to the appropriate supervisor or Lead Pastor.
- Have or pursue the EQ to manage emotions, opinions, and outlook in a way that puts people before the project.
Coach Others
- Provide support for team members with one-on-one meetings, encouraging personal and spiritual growth
- Provide training and coaching opportunities for team members.
