Financial Advisor Development Program

Northwestern Mutual seeks an entry-level Financial Advisor to join our Midtown Manhattan offices. This is a great opportunity open to individuals seeking to begin a career in financial services, including recent college graduates and candidates transitioning from different industry sectors.

As a Financial Advisor, you will work with new clients and maintain ongoing client relationships with individuals, families, and businesses to offer our diverse portfolio of financial products and services—including financial planning, investment management, insurance, as well as wealth management for high-net-worth clients. The Financial Advisor will be the primary contact for clients, and you will have available to you an experienced team of financial and investment specialists and office support to assist in delivery of services to your clients.

Training & Development

Prior financial services experience is not required – we will train you. The Training & Development Program includes a 3-week training at the start of the position, where you will be introduced to our portfolio of financial products and services and learn effective strategies and practices for early success. Then, once working in the role, you will be able to work alongside an experienced Director in the office who will serve as your mentor on an ongoing basis, allowing you to do your client work jointly with an experienced leader in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • New Business Development: establishing relationships with new clients through leads, referrals, and calls
  • Client Financial Advisory: meeting with clients to discuss financial planning, insurance, investment management, and other services
  • Delivery of customized financial plans to help clients achieve their financial goals
  • Day-to-day client relationship management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in a client/customer-facing role (includes sales, client/investor relations, customer service, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated interest in the Financial Services sector
  • Must live in the Tri-State Area

Northwestern Mutual also sponsors licensing for Financial Advisors, including the SIE, Series 6, and Series 63, so this is an ideal role for candidates seeking entry into a financial services career with significant earning potential.

Whether you are a recent graduate ready to embark on a career in Financial Services, or are an experienced candidate seeking a career change or a new challenge, this is an excellent opportunity to thrive in the world of insurance, investments, and wealth management.

This position starts out as onsite at our Midtown Manhattan offices, Monday – Friday, regular business hours.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation is a combination of commissions, stipends, and bonuses.
  • Commission structure to support early development. Average annual earnings of $61K-$119K (based on 2018-2023 company average for representatives in the first 3 years)
  • Up to $2,000 in training stipend
  • Renewable income beginning in second year
  • Bonus programs & expense allowances.
  • Support for insurance licensing (Life, Accident, & Health license)
  • Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations
  • Medical/dental/vision insurance; life and disability insurance; company-funded retirement pension plan.
