NMC is currently recruiting a RN, in the Family Birth Center. The position is full-time (72 hours bi-weekly), (Day/Evening 7a-7:30p), and every other weekend). Salary: $36 - 57.54/hr USD shift differentials

Family Birth Center Registered Nurse

JOB SUMMARY:

The RN in the Family Birth Center provides safe nursing care in a timely manner to patients on the assigned unit with a high degree of independence. Performs within the scope of a RN as defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing.

PRE-REQUISITES:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with current licensure as a RN in Vermont, BS preferred

Experience: Successful completion of FBC orientation and IV certification. Previous clinical experience in obstetrical, pediatric and neonatal nursing preferred.

Certifications Required: Intermediate/Advanced EFM course and NRP certification. PALS or proficiency/education in obstetric emergencies encouraged; BLS

RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: FBC Nurse Director

Other Contacts: Shift administrator, physicians, patients, families, visitors, public, forensic staff, hospital staff, and other healthcare practitioners

SCOPE:

Machinery or Equipment Used: Patient monitoring devices, cast removal saw, IV pumps, patient transport devices, needles/syringes, computer, basic office equipment, and other patient care equipment

Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, lifting up to 50 lbs., kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching, and awkward positions. Frequent twisting, bending, squatting, stooping, reaching and pushing/pulling. Constant standing and walking

Working Conditions: Exposure to crisis situations and unpleasant elements of acute traumatic injuries, accidents and illness. Frequently exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Exposed to hazards from electrical equipment. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and stress/pressure due to multiple patient needs

Required Protective Equipment: All Personal Protective Equipment and situation and patient condition dictates

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Organizes/delivers care for multiple patient assignment

  • Refers concerns/issues to appropriate resources
  • Collaborates with all members of the multidisciplinary care team

  • Supports the preceptorship program, students and job shadow experiences

8. Applies knowledge integration skills for the patient population served within unit.

  • Provides age specific care
  • Applies knowledge of expected norms in planning care
  • Applies new data to improve care
  • Integrates technical, psychological, social, intellectual and physical skills

9. Demonstrates the unit specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served.

  • See unit specific competencies
  • Provides post anesthesia care to postpartum women according to AWHONN and ASPAN guidelines using evidence based care for phase 1 and phase 2 recovery of post anesthesia
  • Maintains mother/baby bonding and couplet care
  • Addresses emergent needs of antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum, patients and neonatal patients
