JOB SUMMARY:

• The physician at Northwestern Endocrinology provides treatment related to the disease, disorders, and conditions of the endocrine system. This system includes multiple glands throughout the body that can cause problems with reproduction, growth, bone health or metabolism. In this role the endocrinologist will see patients ranging from young adult to geriatric and include diagnosis such as Type 1 & 2 diabetes, thyroid diseases such as Grave’s disease, and pituitary issues.

PRE-REQUISITES:

• Education: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Vermont. Board Certified/Eligible in Addiction Medicine. If not board certified at the time of hire, s/he has up to five years from the date of eligibility to sit for boards.
• Experience: One year of experience in the treatment of narcotic addiction preferred, as well as experience in medically assisted treatment of addiction. Proficiency with computerized electronic medical record within a practice setting preferred.
• Special Skills: A high degree of discipline with regards to compliance with policies and procedures are required in order to successfully manage this complex population. The physician must have the ability to provide a vision of caring while requiring compliance to a uniform set of expectations for every patient.

SCOPE:

• Machinery or Equipment Used:
• • Computers, Electronic Health Records.
• Physical Demands:
• • Extensive sitting, walking, standing, reaching, fingering, talking, feeling, eye/hand coordination, near and far vision, color vision.
• Working Conditions:
• • Potential for danger to life or health in dealing with violent patients. May be exposed to unpleasant patient or department conditions. Subject to high stress of multiple calls/demands/interruptions and crisis situations.
• Required Protective Equipment:
• • Ergonomically correct computer equipment, as well as PPE required on a case by case basis to perform appropriate patient care (eye protection, face protection, goggles, mask, gown, non-sterile medical gloves and sterile medical gloves).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation and follow up for patients seen in Northwestern Medical Center’s Endocrinology program.

• • Completes timely History and Physical and documentation
  • Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures and studies
  • Interprets and integrates data to deliver appropriate therapeutic goals
  • Utilizes referral services when appropriate
  • Provides education to patients on both acute and chronic care of condition.

• Implements medical care within their limits of privileges, including writing orders for medications, and prescribing out-patient medications according to Vermont Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.

• • Collects/integrates data from multiple sources
  • Refers concerns/issues to appropriate resources

• Effectively develops and communicates with the patient and the family/support system about the treatment plan, resources and required follow up care.

• • Applies knowledge integration skills for the patient population served within clinic
  • Talks with and listens to patients/team members
  • Adapts care management for diverse populations and environment
  • Incorporates teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion
  • Provides counseling about health behaviors

• Utilizes the hospitals electronic health record by appropriately documenting all patient interactions.

• • Maintains legible, accurate and confidential medical records.
  • Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment, and outcomes
  • Ensures all records are completed in a timely manner as indicated by NMC policy

• Actively participates in hospital committees and maintains both a collegial and independent relationship with members of the medical staff and Hospital employees.

• • Observes usual requirements of medical staff membership such as compliance with bylaws, rules and regulations.
  • Actively participates in Medical Staff Peer Review Process, as applicable
  • Regularly attends departmental meetings and medical staff committees.

• Demonstrates support of and assists with the execution of cost saving and process improvement initiatives. Partners with other departments of the hospital to ensure efficient flow of patients.
