Hourly Rate: $29.09 USD to $42.42 USD

Clinic Registered Nurse

JOB SUMMARY:

The RN provides safe nursing care in a timely manner to patients, within the scope of an RN as defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing.

PRE-REQUISITES:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or enrolled in an accredited Direct Entry to Master of Science in Nursing Program preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Vermont (VT RN license or Compact State RN).

Experience: Minimum of two years non-hospital nursing experience. Previous clinical experience in obstetrical, pediatric and neonatal nursing. PALS certification in ALSO or proficient in education in obstetric emergencies encouraged.

Certifications: BLS required

RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Department Leader

Other Contacts: Providers and their staff, patients and their families, hospital staff & community resource staff

SCOPE:

Machinery or Equipment Used: Computer, basic office equipment, exercise equipment, patient monitoring and care and resuscitation equipment

Physical Demands: Extensive sitting, walking, typing, listening, bending, finger dexterity, standing, reaching, color vision, talking, and eye/hand coordination

Working Conditions: Medical clinic environment with patients at high risk of cardiac arrest or arrythmias. Subject to high stress of multiple calls, interruptions, demands and crisis situations

Required Protective Equipment: PPE as situation and patient condition dictates

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Incorporates appropriate assessment and intervention skills in all interactions and delivery of nursing care including:

  • Provides comprehensive patient orientation to ensure patient safety
  • Performs admission assessment
  • Develops outcome goals based on best practice and patient response
  • Evaluates patient's progress through program by use of lab data, ECG interp and patient's exercise tolerance
  • Equipment use and management

2. Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner evidenced by:

  • Talks with and listens to patients/team members
  • Reports pertinent, concise information
  • Complete timely clinical documentation/order entry
  • Protects confidentiality of patient/colleagues

3. Applies critical thinking skills and considers alternatives

  • Organizes multitask workload
  • Prioritizes tasks/work
  • Appropriately seeks assistance
  • Collects/integrates data from multiple sources
  • Organizes/delivers care for multiple patient assignment

4. Develops and maintain human care relationships

  • Integrates the influence of the human experience of health, illness and/or healing
  • Adapts care management for diverse populations and environment
  • Advocates for needs of patients
  • Provides care in ethical and legal manner
  • Refers concerns/issues to appropriate resources

5. Manages self and resources effectively

  • Acknowledges limits of experience and capability
  • Identifies learning needs and seeks resources
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies appropriately
  • Maintain clean, orderly environment of care
  • Ensures traffic control in “sensitive areas”
  • Seeks out and accepts feedback

6. Applies leadership skills

  • Interacts with others in professional manner
  • Manages conflict
  • Coordinates care within multi-disciplinary team
  • Utilizes process improvement techniques to evaluate and improve program

7. Incorporates teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion

  • Provides appropriate information to patient

  • Provides counseling about health behaviors
  • Supports the preceptorship program, job shadow and student experiences

8. Applies knowledge integration skills for the patient population served within clinic

  • Provides age specific care
  • Applies knowledge of expected norms in planning care
  • Applies new data to improve care
  • Integrates technical, psychological, social, intellectual and physical skills

9. Demonstrates the unit specific skills requisite for patient population served
