Hours: flexible; approximately 15-18 hours per week

Starting Wage Range: unpaid, service-learning internship

Internship Description
This position supports the success of NWYS by providing support to data needs across programs and departments. As a data intern, you will directly support the report building process which is integral to maintaining the funding and support NWYS needs to accomplish its mission. In addition to report building, you will assist NWYS by processing, scanning, and uploading client files with confidentiality and accuracy, while helping maintain a complete and organized database of client files for the company internally. You will also have the opportunity to support NWYS’s digital transition to a Case Management System (CMS) by preparing files for the transition and assisting with the roll-out. Together this combination of work will not only help NWYS achieve its mission, but you will also gain valuable skills in the fields of Human Services, Social Work, Data Science, Data Reporting, and Management of Information Systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing client files into HMIS (Homelessness Management Information System)
- Collaborating across departments to resolve data issues
- Scanning and uploading client files
- Assisting in building reports
- Managing and maintaining excel data tracking spreadsheets
- Maintaining data security and confidentiality of client files across various channels
- Assistance in rollout and training of new Case Management System (CMS)
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and formulas)
- Understanding of data quality standards
- Experience with data analytics
- Experience working with a team and independently
- Background check clearance
Required within the first 30 days of term (provided by NWYS):
- Full understanding of the CPS mandatory reporting requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or similar educational program.
- Basic understanding of database architecture and design
- Experience using the Software Development Life Cycle framework (SDLC)
- HMIS experience
- Experience with data visualization (Excel, Tableau, Power BI)
- Knowledge of issues faced by young people at-risk of/experiencing homelessness
