Position Title: K-8 Physical Education Teacher

Location: Nestucca Valley K-8

Reports To: Building Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: Licensed Salary Schedule

General Description

To assist students in reaching their full potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and psychological development and growth, and to assist in maintaining a safe and secure school environment. Work collaboratively with school staff in designing and implementing a physical education program for K-8 students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

  • Required to hold an Oregon teaching license as set by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for the State of Oregon.
  • Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
  • Valid Oregon Drivers License preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045).
  • Maintain current licenses and/or certificates required for the position
  • Create and model a respectful learning environment.
  • Plan appropriate lessons and activities to meet students needs
  • Create K-8 physical education curriculum map including weekly scope and sequence.
  • Use effective classroom management techniques.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques based upon sound education theory, which are appropriate to students needs.
  • Assess student performance, interpret, and utilizes the results of student performance assessment.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law and district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with school staff and with parents/guardians concerning academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
  • Maintain and update current Grade Book and online ParentVue.
  • Reflect upon own teaching and performance and accept and implement supervisory feedback to improve skills and services to students.
  • Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
  • Attend and participate in building staff meetings, IEP meetings, PLTs and district in-service meetings.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Annually pass the Districts required online training by the Districts assigned due date.
  • Follow District protocol for reporting absences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms Of Employment

Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract.

Evaluation

Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.

  • Appropriate use of technology: The employee uses the internet, email, and electronic communication in compliance with Nestucca Valley School District Acceptable Use Policy and Administrative Rules.

  • Frequent or prolonged standing, running, walking and sitting.
  • Crouching to work with younger students.
  • Possible moderate to high noise level.
  • Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations/meetings.

  • Requires handling and working with a variety of materials, equipment and objects.
  • Work may occasionally involve lifting/carrying objects weighing 60 pounds.
