Director of Hospitality & Events Service

Description Of Position

The Director of Hospitality & Events Service provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Northwest Nazarene University’s conferences, events, and hospitality services. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive conference and event strategy that enhances the institution's reputation, maximizes utilization of campus facilities, increases revenue generation, and delivers exceptional guest experiences.

The Director oversees conference services, event operations, hospitality management, sales and business development efforts, contract administration, pricing strategies, and customer engagement. This role serves as a key liaison among campus departments, external clients, vendors, and community partners while leading a high-performing team dedicated to excellence in service delivery.

This individual reports to the Vice President for Finance & Operations. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Essential Functions

  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for the University's conference, event, and hospitality operations, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and service excellence standards.
  • Directs the scheduling, marketing, sales, and utilization of campus facilities for conferences, meetings, camps, special events, and external rentals.
  • Develops proposals, establish pricing strategies, negotiate contracts, and manage client relationships to support revenue growth and maximize facility utilization.
  • Oversees all event operations, including facility scheduling, production services, technical support, guest services, and event logistics.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for external clients, vendors, community partners, and campus stakeholders, ensuring exceptional customer service and hospitality experiences.
  • Leads the planning and execution of Conference and Events support of university events, including Commencement, Homecoming, Board of Trustees meetings, and other institutional functions.
  • Recruits, supervises, develops, and evaluates professional/technical staff, student employees, volunteers, and contracted service providers.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets, monitors financial performance, and implements strategies to achieve operational and revenue objectives.
  • Reviews and administers facility use agreements, event contracts, and vendor partnerships to ensure compliance with university policies and risk management standards.
  • Assesses facility conditions and operational needs; recommends capital improvements, equipment acquisitions, and processes enhancements to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with campus departments to develop and maintains the University facilities schedule using the university scheduling software to ensure effective coordination of campus events and facility usage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Public Relations
  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the university and its greater community of constituents.
  • The candidate must demonstrate high motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines in a deadline-oriented environment, work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills in the English language (both oral and written)
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
  • Skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform all functions of the position
  • The University requires that all candidates have a Christian perspective (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU and be willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University
  • Management and supervisory experience
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, squat, twist, stoop, and work comfortably and safely on ladders, manlifts, and on catwalks
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, including some Sundays
  • Ability to operate within various computer software programs
  • Ability to effectively train others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in conference and event management and/or hospitality management
  • Sales or marketing experience

Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
