What are the responsibilities and job description for the Philosophy Instructor position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
The Philosophy Instructor is a full‐time, 9-month salaried position responsible for teaching Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Logic, and Religion courses. These responsibilities involve developing and implementing course syllabi, achieving student learning outcomes, evaluating student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, participating in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or higher in Divinity or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate-level hours in Divinity.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills required
- Experience with online teaching and classroom technology preferred
REPORTS TO: District Director of Social Science Instruction Location: This position will have classes in Oxford and Senatobia.
CONTRACT TERM: Nine (9) months
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach Philosophy, Ethics, Logic and Religion courses
- Prepare, administer, and grade assignments, and/or program assessment data
- Maintain a record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board
- Submit grades, attendance, and outcomes according to the academic calendar
- Manage timely engagement, grading, and communication
- Participate in departmental meetings and committee assignments
- Complete 15 hours of professional development each year
- Ability to travel between campus locations
- Establish effective relationships with college administration, faculty, staff, and students.
- Adhere to school policy as set in the Policy and Procedures Manual
- Perform other duties as assigned by the District Director of Business
