What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Technical Counselor position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
The Career Technical Counselor coordinates and conducts activities in support of the enrollment, retention, and the career development of career and technical students. This is a 12-month professional staff position reporting to the Director of Career Technical Education and Program Advancement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education/related field
- Demonstrated success working with a team
- Demonstrated success initiating, organizing, and implementing projects
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with internal and external constituents
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Guidance/Counseling or related field preferred
- Experience in Career-Technical Education preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the management and provision of services for the Beverly Brewer Stark Career Center.
- Assist the College’s Recruiting Office in the recruiting of career and technical students including dissemination of CTE information at secondary schools and appropriate community events, coordinate CTE tours, and maintain positive working relationships with area high school counselors.
- Coordinate CTE student registration, enrollment, and retention of career and technical students for the Senatobia.
- Assists CTE efforts in the College’s Orientation program.
- Coordinate and provide academic and career services to ensure effective retention of CTE students.
- Coordinate with college wide Career and Technical faculty in the delivery of soft skills training for all students.
- Coordinate CTE competitions and activities at the Senatobia Campus.
- Participate and cooperate as a team member with Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical Education staff and faculty in division activities.
- Serve on various committees as a representative for Career-Technical Education.
- Travel to various schools in the district required, in additional to working some nights and weekends.
- Contribute to the overall mission of the College by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of Career Technical Education and Program Advancement and Associate VP for Workforce Solutions & Career Technical Education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical, organizational, oral, and written communication, judgment/problem-solving and human relations skills are essential.
- Must be able to work without close supervision.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook email) and calendar management.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and communicate clearly and effectively in a timely manner.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
- Travel to various schools in district, in additional to working some nights and weekends.
- Communicate with others in person, phone, zoom, and via email.
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Must have ability to walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat.
