Position Title: In-School Suspension Supervisor


Position Summary

The In-School Suspension Supervisor is responsible for overseeing students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) and maintaining a structured, supportive, and productive learning environment. This position monitors student behavior, reinforces school expectations, and supports academic progress during suspension periods. The ISS Supervisor works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, and families to promote positive behavioral outcomes and student accountability.

This is a non-contractual position.


Essential Functions

  • Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension.

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive ISS environment.

  • Monitor daily attendance and report absences to the attendance clerk.

  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for student conduct, behavior, and academic performance.

  • Assign, monitor, and review student coursework during suspension periods.

  • Support students in completing assigned academic work.

  • Counsel students regarding appropriate behavior, decision-making, and school expectations.

  • Communicate with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding student behavior and progress, as appropriate.

  • Document and report inappropriate behavior or disciplinary concerns to administration.

  • Supervise students during transitions, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, and break periods.

  • Escort students as needed throughout the school day.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student assignments, attendance, and behavior.

  • Provide assistance in classrooms or other building areas as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.


Qualifications

  • Missouri teaching certificate preferred.

  • Missouri Substitute Certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) required.

  • Experience working with school-age children.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of effective student behavior management strategies and in-school suspension practices.

  • Ability to maintain a structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to situations requiring immediate attention.

  • Ability to think clearly, act decisively, and remain calm in emergency or challenging situations.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents.


Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing and walking throughout the workday.

  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to supervise and escort students throughout the school building.
