About the Role
The Billing Specialist plays an important role in supporting NMHSI’s financial operations by ensuring accurate claim review, billing, payment posting, and account management for medical, dental, and behavioral health services.
This position works closely with providers, insurance companies, and internal teams to support timely reimbursement, maintain compliance with payer regulations, and promote efficient revenue cycle processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and audit electronic health record (EHR) claims for accuracy prior to submission
- Process and submit medical, dental, and behavioral health claims according to payer requirements and regulations
- Post payments, adjustments, and remittance information accurately within the EHR system
- Monitor and resolve rejected or denied claims in a timely manner
- Verify procedure and diagnosis coding as documented by providers
- Manage patient payment plans and process patient statements for outstanding balances
- Facilitate patient and insurance refund processing for overpayments
- Assist with accounts receivable review and account balance write-offs as appropriate
- Compile and organize payment documentation and billing records
- Support provider enrollment activities and maintain current knowledge of payer guidelines and regulations
- Complete monthly and quarterly reporting related to managed care and Medicare requirements
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in Medical Billing, Healthcare Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare revenue cycle operations
Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS coding
- Experience utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems, practice management software, and billing software
- Familiarity with medical and dental terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer, written, and verbal communication skills
