Job Overview

The Clinical Director is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and oversight of all clinical department operations across the organization. This leadership role is critical in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care through the implementation of efficient, standardized, and evidence-based practices. In close collaboration with the Medical Director and executive leadership, the Clinical Director will align departmental objectives with organizational goals, driving continuous improvement in clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational performance. A key focus of this position is to champion a culture of excellence and compassion, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and supporting clinical teams in their pursuit of innovation and professional growth. The Clinical Director will work proactively to streamline workflows, enhance patient safety, and optimize the patient experience at every stage of the care continuum.

Essential Duties

• Lead the development, implementation, and compliance of clinical policies, procedures, and objectives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
• Develop and maintain objectives, standards or practice, policy and process manuals, and strategies regarding patient care delivery.
• Work within the clinical departments to support strategic development and operational execution of activities while adhering to budget, scope, and schedule.
• Lead and manage enterprise-level projects that integrate clinical operations, quality, financial performance, and patient experience.
• Work closely with the Medical Director and leadership to implement effective and efficient clinical care strategies.
• Assist the Medical Director in developing and managing departmental targets and operational goals.
• Lead and manage operations, growth, and strategy for key clinical programs (e.g., cellular and gene therapy).
• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships locally and nationally to strengthen collaborative networks and drive shared goals.
• Ability to interface, oversee, and develop external partnerships as necessary.
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement initiatives to advance care and operational efficiency.
• Oversee ongoing and ad-hoc reporting for staffing, clinical metrics, etc.
• Direct regular clinical audits, ensuring readiness for internal and external reviews, and implement quality improvements as needed.
• Ensure adherence to all legal requirements, government reporting mandates, and accreditation processes (e.g., QOPI, NCQA, ACHC) by proactively preparing for internal and external audits and accreditation reviews, while driving continuous quality improvements to maintain and exceed regulatory standards.
• Regularly assess staffing needs based on census, acuity, and budget to ensure a lean and efficient staffing model.
• Review and analyze clinical metrics to drive accountability and ensure departments meet patient and company goals.
• Field and resolve patient complaints for all clinical departments and work with other key managers for resolution if needed.
• Analyze patient complaint trends and work with the team to develop and implement appropriate resolutions.
• Exercise independent judgment in high-impact clinical and operational decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Interpret and implement the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of clinical departments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure excellent customer service, timeliness, and patient care.
• Foster a culture of excellence, safety, and team engagement across all clinical departments.
• Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and mentor clinical leaders and staff.
• Oversee or delegate employee health policies and compliance processes.
• Participate in staff hiring while adhering to federal, local, and internal guidance for equal opportunity employment, providing objective interview feedback to support informed hiring decisions.
• Represent clinical operations in internal meetings and planning sessions.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on clinical trends, priorities, and growth opportunities.
• Uphold strict confidentiality of proprietary and other confidential information.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned in alignment with leadership priorities.

• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry, including oncology accreditations (QOPI, EOM, ACHC, NCQA).
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions.
• Able to travel to/work from various clinic locations as needed.

Education / Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required (BSN, BS, or BA)
• Graduate degree preferred (MSN, MBA, MHA, or Pharm.D.)
• Eight or more years of related experience and/or training, including oncology, clinical operations, and healthcare leadership experience at the manager or director level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Washington State clinical license if applicable.
