Primary Purpose
To assist the director of guidance and counseling in the continuous improvement of the comprehensive guidance and counseling program, to support the achievement of district goals and initiatives
Qualifications
Assists with the supervision of at-risk counselor(s), intervention counselors, and truancy intervention counselors
Equipment Used
Personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, and fax machine.
Working Conditions
Work with frequent interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Position requires repetitive hand motions and occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.

To assist the director of guidance and counseling in the continuous improvement of the comprehensive guidance and counseling program, to support the achievement of district goals and initiatives
Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- School counselor certification
- Two years of teaching experience
- Three years of counseling experience
- Secondary counseling experience preferred
- Assist in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and promotion of a comprehensive counseling and guidance program K-12 that includes guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and system support.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
- Displays a strong ability to work independently as a self-starter with excellent time management skills.
- Coordinates assigned activities with other departments and campuses to ensure services for students are provided.
- Assists in designing, planning, and implementing districtwide SEL integration in the areas of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and personal well-being.
- Assists with the communication of the SEL standards to Northwest ISD personnel, students, and parents.
- Assists with training, resources, and programming in the following:
- Mental health promotion, early mental health prevention, and intervention.
- Substance abuse prevention and intervention.
- Suicide prevention, intervention, and post-vention.
- Grief-informed and trauma-informed practices.
- Safe, supportive school climate.
- Child/sexual abuse prevention and intervention, including human trafficking.
- Bullying/cyber-bullying prevention and conflict resolution.
- Violence prevention and intervention, including stay-away agreements and threat assessments
- Coordinate and network with community resource agencies in counseling and mental health, substance abuse, and food/clothing assistance.
- Initiate and/or maintain Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) and/or contracts with providers and external agencies.
- Assists with campus crisis and interventions.
- Assists with designing counseling presentations and informational materials for the three school counseling domains: academic, college/career, and social-emotional.
- Assists with secondary academic evaluation, planning, and scheduling in the following areas
- Evaluation and placement of new students.
- Evaluation of academic achievement records (AAR).
- Transition (5 to 6) and (8-9) - presentations, documents, and personal graduation plans.
- Graduation requirements, including courses, state prerequisites, endorsements, performance acknowledgments, and LOTE committees.
- Coordination with Student Data Services for academic legal notices, course registration, career planner, and course verifications.
- Middle school and high school academic planning guides.
- Train and inform middle school and high school counselors in course updates and scheduling recommendations.
- Assists with NCAA compliance, including maintaining the District's NCAA course catalog, serving as the NCAA liaison, and providing resources/training for counselors.
- Assists with maintaining the district counseling website.
- Assists with onboarding, professional development, and continual support for school counselors, intervention counselors, and truancy intervention counselors.
- Assists with the planning, designing, and leading training for other Northwest ISD personnel, as well as parents and community members.
- Exhibit high technology proficiency in multiple programs.
- Assists with platform administration of systems such as Parchment and Satchel Pulse.
- Possess analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to collect, organize, and analyze data.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Promote a collaborative approach to solving issues related to guidance and counseling.
- Adheres to the ethical and legal standards and models behavior that is professional and responsible.
- Maintain a high level of integrity and service at all times.
- Maintains student confidentiality as appropriate when working with school staff and outside agencies and providers.
- Maintains positive working relationships with district personnel and community members.
- Pursues continuous professional growth and development.

- Follows district and school policy, i.e., completing daily time requirements, dressing professionally, attending meetings, etc.
