BASIC FUNCTION: Guide and support students in achieving their educational and career goals. The Academic Advisor will assist students in program and course selection, degree planning, and navigating academic policies, ensuring a smooth and successful college experience. This role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills to help students overcome academic challenges and stay on track for graduation. Assess the financial, academic, personal, and career development needs of students and provide advising to participants of the Pathways for Academic and Career Employment (PACE) Program. Assist students in plans to carry out goals and provide services and supports to help navigate the steps along their academic pathway in order to assure their educational and career success. Support the healthcare department with day-to-day operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required – Associate’s Degree
Strong communication, leadership and human relation skills
Preferred – Degree in Health, Education, or Communications
One to three years in Student Services at the college level
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide individualized academic advising to students regarding career pathways, degree requirements, course selection, and transfer options and other advising needs for any program.
2. Assist students in developing educational and career plans that align with their academic and professional aspirations.
3. Monitor student progress and provide interventions for those facing academic difficulties including linking students with appropriate college and community resources.
4. Educate students on institutional policies, registration procedures, financial aid options, and academic resources.
5. Support new student orientation and other student success initiatives.
6. Maintain accurate records of advising interactions and student progress.
7. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student services to create a supportive learning environment.
8. Participate in professional development opportunities and remain current on advising best practices.
9. Promote equity and inclusion by supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
10. Actively participate in college committees.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
12. Coordinate the administration of comprehensive financial, academic, personal and career supports for PACE Program participants.
13. Work in collaboration with other college programs, committees, and partners on the development and implementation of existing and future PACE initiatives, with a focus on creation of career pathways and articulation of program between non-credit and credit programming.
14. Evaluate the success of individual participants and provide intervention when necessary.
15. Maintain contact with students enrolled in PACE, ensuring students are making satisfactory progress toward the successful completion of career pathways and the PACE program.
16. Assist PACE academic support tutor to maintain accurate documentation.
17. Monitor and adjust budget; prepare annual report as required.
18. Maintain accurate documentation for annual reporting.
19. Answer telephone and furnish information to caller.
20. Assist with organizing special event days.
21. Manage materials, supplies and file organization for the Health Division by keeping the office stocked with the necessary documents for efficiency.
22. Assist in managing files.
23. Be familiar with Northwest Iowa Community College policies and procedures for Health.
24. Prepare correspondence, reports, grant requirements, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and other documents efficiently and accurately.
25. Work with minimal supervision, organizing and prioritizing daily work.
26. Enter purchase orders, and write requests for payment.
27. Assume direct responsibility for maintaining currency of specific annual or reoccurring projects.
28. Assist with preparation of local, state, and federal reports as directed.
29. Enter Colleague/Datatel section information and maintain adequate records for sections generated by the Health Division.
30. Prepare appropriate mailings and email correspondence.
31. Compile evaluations as required.
32. Run registrations, class rosters, and certificates for Health courses in Colleague/Datatel.
33. Prepare correspondence, reports, and other materials as needed.
34. Support Advisory Board meetings.
35. Support the operations for all of the departments within the health division by supporting the needs of the faculty, staff, and Associate Dean of Health. This may include credit and noncredit course offerings, as well as, assisting in the classroom, lab, clinical, and/or simulation setting.
