Primary Purpose:
- Provide educators with the essential skills needed to ensure children develop a strong foundation in reading and writing.
- Create a shared framework with a common vocabulary based on the Science of Teaching Reading.
- Provide competency-based and cost-effective professional development with Cohort Leader support through in-person PD sessions and online modules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required
- A valid Texas teacher’s certificate
- Passing Score on the Texas Reading Academies Cohort Screener Assessment (Can apply with the intent to take the course, but must pass.)
- Completion of Texas Reading Academies Course - ELAR or Administration Pathways
- Ability to work effectively with PK-3 principals and teachers
- Ability to share proven instructional approaches with PK-3 teachers and administrators and interpersonal skills to provide feedback and coaching
- Ability to conduct staff development and/or mentor teachers
- Experience in facilitating the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom
- Strong organizational skills, strategic planning skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver Texas Reading Academies training with fidelity according to the purpose and intent of the program, including adherence to the training materials as designed and deliver the full and complete content of each training course.
- Utilize resources and exemplars from the Texas Reading Academies modules when coaching and/or providing feedback to participants.
- Provide training to participants with support through facilitated discussions and provide timely feedback on Checks for Understanding (CFUs) and artifacts.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant performance (e.g., artifact scores, discussions, and CFUs).
- Maintain confidentiality of Cohort Leader support materials (e.g., facilitation guides, technical and content training videos, artifact calibration materials, grading guides, etc.).
- Approve for Texas Reading Academies certification for those individuals who receive the training and complete all requirements.
- Manage documentation, feedback, discussion posts, and grading in a timely manner to facilitate the participant experience and House Bill 3 requirements.
- Provide at least four live coaching sessions for each participant, utilizing the coaching protocols covered in Cohort Leader training.
- Stay current with training updates to provide participants with the most up-to-date information and resources, including:
a. Attend meetings, calibration training, and office hours.
b. Review updated content.
c. Participate in coaching as required by TEA.
d. Maintain active Cohort Leader status by completing updates, training, or assessment, as required.
e. Provide feedback to the Texas Reading Academies development team and Texas Education Agency.

Working Conditions:
Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; lifting of 50 lbs., frequent use of small hand tools and electronic equipment; travel as necessary.
