JOB OBJECTIVE
- Provide a comprehensive counseling program for all children in high school
- Consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students
- Provide support to other secondary educational programs
- Perform appropriate activities which will implement the Guidance Program Goals and guidance Program General Objectives of the Northwest Local School District’s K-12 Guidance Program at the Secondary Level
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a valid Ohio teaching certificate with certification in the areas of school counseling K-12
- BCI/FBI Background Checks

- Location will be assigned according to the policy and administrative rules of the Northwest Local School District

JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential
- Collect and compile Senior Survey Information
- Register new students
- Review student schedules and make necessary changes
- Conduct Senior interviews (check credits, career plans, etc.)
- Process college applications, recommendations, and send transcripts
- Coordinate and expedite vocational orientation program
- Assist with home instruction, when appropriate
- Provide intervention for students on failure list through individual counseling, sending notice to parents, and parent conference when requested
- Assist the administration in planning the high school awards program
- Organize and conduct parent meetings (financial aid, new student orientation, etc.)
- Participate in I.E.P. meetings
- Provide inservice for staff when appropriate
- Prepare materials for registration
- Counsel students and parents
- Coordinate career and College search activities
- Make referrals for psychological testing to school psychologist and make referrals for counseling to community agencies
- Consult with community agencies
- Consult with parents and teachers concerning student needs
- Coordinate and interpret standardized tests
- Coordinate visits of military, college, and technical school representatives and on campus visits
- Attend professional meetings pertaining to guidance and counseling areas
- Check student credits for graduation
- Administer proficiency tests and maintain records of the results
- Provide information regarding alternative supplemental education programs: (night school, summer school, correspondence school, GED, etc.)
- Provide information on Post Secondary Options for juniors and seniors, schedule and conduct conferences when necessary, monitor paperwork required.
- Supervise, coordinate maintenance of senior graduation tests for ordering diplomas
- Responsible for all guidance activities for computer scheduling, grade reporting, and EMIS records
- Compile lists of all senior awards, i.e. Award of Distinction, Presidential Awards, East Ohio Gas, Kempthorn Award, etc.
- Organize the Junior Awards, i.e. Buckeye Boys and Girls State, etc.
- Distribute Local scholarship applications and information and provide necessary transcript information, and distribute and maintain National & College Scholarship information
- Coordinate special educational programs, “Engineer for A Day”, “Youth in Industry”, etc.
- Coordinate activities with the Vocational Compact Counselors
- Help foreign Exchange students with special problems
- Supervise scheduling of parent teacher conferences
- Provide information and registration for PSAT, SAT, and ACT
- Additional duties as assigned
