Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works collaboratively with providers and clinical staff to deliver high-quality patient care and support daily clinic operations within an outpatient medical setting.
What You Will Do
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Prepare patients for examinations by collecting vital signs, medical histories, current concerns, blood pressure, weight, and updating problem lists
- Prepare patients for provider visits and assist during examinations and procedures
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
- Draw laboratory specimens and prepare specimens for shipment including cultures, biopsies, and Pap smears
- Assist patients with ambulation, wheelchair transfers, and movement to and from examination tables
- Assist providers with procedures and ensure equipment is maintained before and after procedures
- Support patient education efforts and communicate information professionally and compassionately
Patient Coordination & Communication
- Triage patient phone calls and walk-in concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Complete follow-up calls as directed by provider staff
- Answer and assess patient and hospital calls as appropriate
- Prepare referral documentation and communicate relevant information to healthcare providers and outside entities
- Maintain tracking logs for laboratory testing, referrals, and diagnostic services
Clinic Operations & Documentation
- Prepare, stock, and maintain examination rooms and required instruments/equipment
- Ensure instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized according to policy
- Review patient charts for appointment readiness and completeness
- Document treatments, procedures, medications, refills, assessments, telephone encounters, and office visits in the electronic medical record
- Maintain documentation during downtime procedures as required
- Monitor supply needs and communicate ordering requirements according to NHS policy
Team & Compliance Responsibilities
- Collaborate with providers, supervisors, and staff to support organizational goals and objectives
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-services, and educational opportunities
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Adhere to all regulatory standards, organizational policies, and healthcare requirements
- Treat patients, coworkers, visitors, vendors, and partners respectfully and professionally at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current LPN licensure in the State of Missouri
- Current BLS certification
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if vehicle is used for business purposes
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of clinic, office nursing, ambulatory care, or acute care experience preferred
