Position Summary
Northwest Florida Community Hospital is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Central Sterile Technician to join our Surgical Services team. The Central Sterile Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety and supporting efficient surgical operations.

- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established standards and procedures.
- Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers and other sterilization systems.
- Monitor and document sterilization processes, biological testing, and quality control measures.
- Prepare instrument trays and procedure carts for surgical cases.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles and instrument tracking.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage; report repair needs as appropriate.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of sterile supplies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention guidelines, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
- Assist operating room staff with instrument and equipment needs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in department meetings, in-services, and continuing education opportunities.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous Central Sterile Processing experience preferred.
- Hospital or surgical services experience preferred.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred or required within a specified timeframe after hire.
- Knowledge of sterilization methods, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
- Ability to push, pull, and move equipment and supply carts.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and manual dexterity tasks.
