POSITION TITLE: Head Start Director
STARTING SALARY: $75,000 - $84,152 per year
BENEFITS: Agency-paid family insurance up to $1,100/month or single health insurance (prorated per schedule); 4% retirement match after 6 months; Life Insurance
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Exempt
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Executive Director, Policy Council, Governing Board
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree is required in education, business administration, social work or related field. Additionally, experience in supervising staff, fiscal management, grant writing, and administration is required.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The Head Start Director, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Policy Council, and the Northwest Community Action, Inc. Board of Directors, will lead, develop, coordinate, and evaluate Head Start programs for children 0 to 5 years old, both in their homes and at centers. The programs will focus on building family strengths and supporting parents in their roles as primary educators of their children.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Program Administration and Leadership
- Responsible for submission and reporting requirements of Federal, State and other grants that benefit the Head start Program.
- Responsible for the general administration of the program.
- Lead staff meetings.
- Approve invoices submitted for the program.
- Oversee staff performance and development.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Director and HR Director as to the hiring, termination, advancement or any other changes of status of Head Start staff contingent upon Policy Council approval.
- Responsible for coordination and implementation of program service areas.
Stakeholder Communication and Representation
- Represent Northwest Community Action, Inc. Head Start at national, state, regional, and local meetings, provide reports to staff and parents.
- Keep the Policy Council and Governing Board informed, attend their meetings as necessary.
- Periodically attend Parent Meetings and visit Centers as appropriate.
- Act as a liaison between Head Start and other Northwest Community Action, Inc. programs.
Public Relations and Community Engagement
- Develop relationships with community partners, including visits to schools, social service agencies, and public functions. Disseminate press releases through media channels.
Fiscal Oversight and Reporting
- Keep abreast of the program’s budget through regular reports and consultations with the Fiscal Director.
Personnel Evaluation and Management
- Responsible for the evaluation of Head Start personnel.
- Keep the Executive Director informed of all significant issues or problems, ensuring prompt corrective action when necessary.
Compliance and Confidentiality
- Adhere to the agency’s policies regarding data privacy.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

- Background Checks: Must meet the requirements outlined in 1302.9b of the Head Start Performance Standards.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 10 lbs. frequently and 10-50 lbs. occasionally.
