What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Public Health Nurse position at Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission?
POSITION OVERVIEW
Conducts communicable disease investigations and provides public health nursing services in homes, clinics and schools to individuals and families in the community as needed. Promotes and protects the health of populations through the performance of core public health functions and the delivery of essential public health services. Performs related work as required.
NUMBER OF WORK HOURS: 15
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conducts communicable disease investigations using the Communicable Disease Surveillance System (CDRSS).
- Measures patients’ blood pressure and interviews patient to conduct a general health assessment at blood pressure.
- Responds to health questions and monitors disease outbreaks from schools and long term care facilities.
- Assists at Child Health Conferences (when needed).
- Conducts school immunization audits.
- Administers immunizations at influenza programs.
- Visit homes of individuals and/or families in the community to evaluate health needs, environmental hazards in the home and to conduct childhood lead poisoning assessments.
- Compiles monthly nurse’s report.
- Participates in emergency preparedness and response activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION
- Registered Nurse License
EXPERIENCE
- One year of experience in a public health field or nursing experience gained while working under the close supervision of a licensed public health nurse.
LICENSE
- Applicants must possess a current and valid registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey
OTHER SKILLS
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, CDRSS and Lead Trax
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, i.e. lift light equipment approximately weighing 10 pounds.
