What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skilled Maintenance position at Northview Public Schools?
General Summary:
- This position is directly responsible for the general maintenance of multiple buildings throughout the district with a main focus on maintaining and monitoring HVAC systems. This includes the general maintenance of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, pool maintenance and general carpentry work and other district systems. This includes safety compliance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, along with compliance of all municipal, state and federal codes, rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- State Certification preferred
- 2 years’ experience maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment
- Training or experience sufficient to provide a working knowledge of Building Automation Systems controlling HVAC equipment
- Demonstrated Technical Skills:
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems, with a main focus on HVAC equipment and systems.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC equipment on the Building Automation System to provide reliable performance and equipment efficiency throughout the district.
- Assist the Director of Facilities in managing the work of outside contractors to repair and maintain district equipment, including solicitation of proposals and managing contracts as directed.
- Complete minor repairs including drywall, painting, doors, ceilings, flooring, plumbing leaks, and basic electrical work.
- Install, assemble, and repair furniture, fixtures, appliances, and equipment.
- Operate, clean, maintain, and safely store hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Inspect safety systems, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with district safety standards.
- Respond to maintenance requests and emergency repairs in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with custodial staff, contractors, and other maintenance personnel.
- Accurately complete work orders and report significant repair needs to the Director of Facilities
- On call as needed at any time for emergency repairs, equipment monitoring, overtime, or special needs falling outside of normal working hours.
- Comfortable with heights
- Able to lift 50 Lbs.
- Able to cover emergency responsibilities and be the main point of contact in for the department in the absence of the Director and as assigned by the Director.

Other Job Functions:
Groundskeeping:
- Although not the primary responsibility, duties may include assisting with maintaining lawns, gardens, trees, and outdoor recreational areas involving tasks like mowing, trimming, planting, watering, and overall landscape management, and snow removal based on the needs of the district.
Building Maintenance:
- Ensuring that all buildings on the campus are well-maintained is crucial. This includes regular inspections, repairs, painting, and cleaning of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and other indoor spaces.
Safety and Security:
- Maintaining a safe environment is paramount. This involves upkeep of fire alarms, security systems, emergency exits, and ensuring that all facilities meet safety regulations.
HVAC and Utilities:
- Monitoring and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and other utilities to ensure they are functioning efficiently.
