Job Summary
Seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Coder and Biller to join our revenue cycle management team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical diagnoses, procedures, and services (including medication billing/authorization and toxicology screening), ensuring proper billing and reimbursement. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records, and electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Medical Coder and Biller will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and optimizing revenue cycle processes.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, and DRGs for billing purposes
- Set billing alerts, charge entries and claim submission
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of claims to workers compensation insurance companies and attorney for personal injury cases
- Maintain detailed knowledge of current coding guidelines, regulations, and payer policies, PPO policy guidelines
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary for accurate coding
- Manage the billing process from coding to submission, follow-up, and collections
- Update and maintain electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems) with precise coding information
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and patient account issues related to coding or claims processing
Skills
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classifications
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Experience with medical billing, collections, and revenue cycle management
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used in healthcare settings
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in coding and billing processes
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately and efficiently
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations related to medical coding and billing compliance
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously
- Prior experience in a medical office environment is required
