Position Title: Health Unit Coordinator
Summary: The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) functions under the supervision of physicians or nurses to provide coordination of appointments for clients. Assist in training the Addiction Recovery Technicians in learning Med Pass. The individual is responsible and accountable for complete and accurate processing of information, communicating and collaborating with healthcare team members to facilitate patient care. The Health Unit Coordinator will facilitate the acquisition of materials and assist with clerical activities to support the units' operations.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Acquires information and processes client related orders and performs other clerical duties to facilitate effective unit operations.
- Communicates information effectively to team members providing patient care to optimize the team’s function and enhance productivity.
- Coordinates processes associated with admissions, transfers and discharges to ensure proper and effective completion of the patient’s care.
- Collects and distributes medical records as necessary to ensure the proper dissemination of patient care information.
- Orders and maintains appropriate supply inventory for the unit to provide the unit with adequate levels of materials to be utilized at any time.
- Coordinates and schedules appointments or procedures to ensure the patient care needs are completed in a timely manner.
- Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
- Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and other upper management staff.
- Complete all mandatory compliance trainings as required.
- Continuous maintenance and improvement of Organizational and Therapeutic Culture: Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Spirituality, Excellence (R.A.I.S.E!)
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties:
- Promote cultural competency by:
(a) developing the supervisee's knowledge of cultural norms of behavior for individual clients and generally for the clients served by the supervisee regarding the client's cultural influences, age, class, gender, sexual orientation, literacy, and mental or physical disability;
(b) addressing how the supervisor's and supervisee's own cultures and privileges affect service delivery;
(c) developing the supervisee's ability to assess their own cultural competence and to identify when consultation or referral of the client to another provider is needed; and
(d) emphasizing the supervisee's commitment to maintaining cultural competence as an ongoing process
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Excellent writing skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Healthcare experience
- HUC experience required
- Demonstrated a high level of professionalism and work ethics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid organizational skills including the ability to plan for and manage multiple projects and a multi-faceted workload and to meet deadlines in a detail-oriented environment
- Solid computer skills: MS Word, Excel, email and internet applications
- Consent to background check and be cleared by DHS to work within a human services program
- Ability to model a lifestyle that is in alignment with NSR values
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and boundaries
- Ability to adhere to NSR Mission, Vision, and Values
- Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
- Must be free from problematic chemical use including strict adherence to NSR’s drug free workplace policy
- Comply with all 245G/245I/245F, MN Statute 148F.165, all other governance statutes as applicable & all program policies and procedures
- Must be able to demonstrate flexibility in work hours and responsibilities to accommodate team members' scheduling needs or unexpected situations
