ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Setup and operate on a diversified range of gear tooth grinding operations requiring considerable judgment to plan and perform. Close and exacting tolerances, angles and contours.
- Responsible for selection of correct wheels, feeds and speeds and correct and very accurate alignment of trimmer box and centers.
- Setup and operate a wide variety of gear tooth and grinding equipment from blueprints or process sheets.
- Must be able to set up and operate Gear Tooth Grinder.
- Must be able to select proper holding devices.
- Performs finish inspection with use of special gaging equipment.
- Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.
- Required to have knowledge of what grinding wheel needs to be used for certain types of materials.
- Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of machine operation.
- Study blueprints and work orders to determine product specifications.

- Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
- Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
- The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Must have 3 years experience in Gear Tooth Grinding/OD Grinding. Familiarity with Kapp, Niles and Holfer’s and have a good understanding of blueprints
- Must know speeds and feeds for different types of material.
- Must have experience with inspection tools such as micrometer, gauges, calipers, etc.
- Problem-solving skills
- Mechanical aptitude with the various types of tools used in the machining process
