What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2nd Shift CNC Mill Machinist position at NORTHSTAR AEROSPACE?
Northstar Aerospace, now part of Avio Aero - a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading independent manufacturer of components and assemblies to the global Aerospace industry. Our principal products include gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems, and other machined and fabricated parts for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. We also provide maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) on these platforms.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position is responsible for operating multiple 3, 4, and 5 axis milling machines and providing technical assistance and oversight to other CNC machinists. This position may operate several CNC machine interfaces, including but not limited to, Hermle (Heidenhain), Mazak (Mazatrol), Okuma, and Fanuc.
This position is in Northstar’s Operations Department, and reports to the Production Supervisor. The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not direct the work of other employees. This is a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Set-up and run Vertical and Horizontal 3, 4, and 5-Axis mills to machine complex rotor craft housings.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on CNC machines.
- Produce High Quality at the Source. Coordinates effort with data from CMM reports.
- Prove out new CNC programs during New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Team with Engineering to develop class leading manufacturing processes.
- Implement new technologies for our machining processes and work-holding solutions.
- Knowledge of materials and cutting conditions.
- Participates in daily GEMBA activities and other Lean events.
- Adheres to required safety and housekeeping standards and practices.
- Helps schedule resources in areas to ensure daily work is achieved.
- Maintain highly efficient work process using Lean principles to support cost reduction activity.
- Responsible for operating various CNC machines and equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent experience
Experience Required: 5 years minimum experience with 5 axis CNC milling machines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

- Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Ability to work with all levels of workers in a team-oriented environment
- Experience with Form Control Software a plus, but not required.
