What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse (Northside) position at NORTHSIDE PRE-K?
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Coordinator I - School Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Principal, the School Nurse’s major duties include but are not limited to: administering all medications, including injections, to students; monitoring blood sugar levels; maintaining the school’s medicine log; and performing other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide first aid service to students and faculty
- Attempt to determine extent of injuries and takes appropriate action, whether it be on-the-spot first aid or referral to another health agency
- Provide counseling and referral services for students with special needs
- Provide instruction in areas of personal hygiene and disease prevention
- Requisition supplies and equipment as needed
- Assume responsibility for inventory and safe storage of all departmental supplies
- Maintain confidential records on services provided for students and staff
- Perform housekeeping duties in the department to insure high standards of sanitation
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to perform catheterizations, tube feedings, respiratory (asthma) treatments, and related duties
- Strong interpersonal skills required
- General knowledge of computers required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of a current LPN License required; RN preferred
- Documented successful experience in performing the above procedures required
- Successful experience working with school-aged children
