The Teacher will provide an enriching and innovative learning environment whereby students achieve post-secondary readiness by instructing and assessing students using curriculum aligned with the New York State Standards in the content area. The Teacher will develop and use common assessments to determine instructional strategies that will most effectively meet the needs of students and prepare them for post-secondary futures. 

The following duties are critical to the overall educational program and require effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with staff and administration:

 

  • Create an education of excellence that meets student’s interests, abilities, and needs within a curricular framework which reflects and promotes an understanding of, and appreciation for, diversity in our community as an integral part of school life leading to post-secondary success.
  • Teach five (5) periods for students using effective curricular, instructional, and assessment practices under an unconditional belief in all students with urgency to accelerate their learning through the principles of Grading for Equity.
  • Develop curriculum, assessment, and instruction within the department through the Modern Classrooms Project approach incorporating blended instruction, self-paced structures, and standards mastery-based grading.
  • Grow in curriculum, assessment, and instruction under the Danielson Framework through receiving coaching, data, and reflection.
  • Participate in and support meaningful data meetings and deep dives in line with department-wide, grade level-wide, and school-wide goals.
  • Keep frequent and current records of student progress.
  • Foster a strong and cohesive school culture through community building and restorative practices.
  • Be open to feedback under the Danielson Framework.
  • Maintain active relationships with local, regional, and national associations and opportunities for professional development in the subject area.
  • Develop and share professional development for the department.
  • Advocate for the department while supporting the wider mission in the school.
  • Support the development of  IEPs and 504s directly linked to the standards-based grading system.

    Ensure students and teachers implement accommodations and modifications during instruction and assessment.

  • Seek partnership with families through consistent engagement and proactive communication, and support the IEP, 504, and eligibility meeting processes with family members

  • The employee is required to complete additional tasks as assigned.

 

Required qualifications include:

 

  • BA/BS
  • Ability to work well with a range of able, highly motivated adults and youth
  • Highly effective communication and organizational skills
  • High levels of energy and creativity
  • Experience conducting classroom observations
  • Experience in providing professional development
  • Valid or pending NYS educational certification or exemption criteria under EDN Ch. 16, Tit. 2, Art. 56 § 2854.3(a-1)
  • Valid NYS Special Education Certification

 

Preferred qualifications include:


  • Master's Degree in Special Education
  • Minimum of 3-5 years relevant teaching experience in an urban high school setting
  • Familiarity and success with teaching New York State Regents Examination courses
  • Multilingual (English, Spanish, and/or other)
  • Knowledge of Restorative Justice and Practices
  • Knowledge of Critical Race Theory
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Modern Classrooms Project and/or Grading for Equity
  • Experience with the Google Suite, PowerSchool, Edgenuity, Edpuzzle, Remind, Zoom, Schoology, and/or Performance Matters

Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
