JOB SUMMARY
The Library Technician reports to the building Librarian; this is a part-time position that provides assistance in the school library shelving books. Responsibilities may include data entry and record keeping; providing library user services, and assisting students, staff, parents, administrators, and the public to promote positive public relations for the school.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from position-to-position or school-to-school based on the employee(s) specific assignment.

  • May enter, update, and maintain data in computerized systems, such as Destiny.
  • Arranges and maintains hard copy files, books, and other materials. May provide secretarial support to the librarians.
  • May maintain copiers and other office equipment; may assist in instructing individual students and staff in the use of equipment and computer software; may troubleshoot problems with equipment and may schedule service as necessary.
  • May assists in monitoring student behavior by modeling appropriate and correcting inappropriate behavior under building guidelines; refers disciplinary infractions to the designated librarian, counselor or building administrator for disciplinary action.
  • May assist in the supervision of student assistants and adult volunteers.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Building Administrator.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a school setting and office environment; frequent interruptions; daily exposure to visual display terminal; may be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods; requires dexterity; requires ability to lift or carry up to 30 lbs; occasionally deals with parents, students or staff in conflict situations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent with two or more years of office experience involving computer skills; experience working with adolescents and the public; school district work experience preferred.


Allowable Substitution

Training in computer operation, secretarial procedures, data entry and/or customer service may substitute on a month-to-month basis for one year of required office experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of general secretarial procedures and library practices; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage; keyboarding skills at 50 words per minute; ability to operate office equipment and computers; ability to maintain confidential information and records; ability to organize and set priorities; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to read, speak, write, and compute effectively; ability to exercise independent judgment, remain flexible, and work effectively under pressure; ability to monitor and correct student behavior as necessary; ability to interact with adolescents and parents in a warm, caring, and confident manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.


SALARY:
Salary is based upon the current 2025-26 NEOPA Salary Schedule Salary (Level F), 2026-27 School Year Salary Placement is under review; placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt. Steps 10, 12, and 15 are longevity steps.


WORK YEAR:
195 days per year, 4.0 hours per day.
