Yard Supervisor (Marine & Dock Operations)
Job Overview
NorthShore Dock LLC is a leading provider of dock, hoist, and marine services in Northern Michigan. We are seeking a Yard Supervisor to lead daily yard operations while working hands-on alongside the team. This is a working supervisor role, meaning the Yard Supervisor actively performs yard work while helping ensure quality, accountability, and efficiency across all yard operations.
This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in physical, outdoor work, leads by example, and understands how to keep a yard running smoothly to support installation and service crews.
Yard Operations & Hands-On Responsibilities
Perform all core yard duties, including loading and unloading docks, hoists, boats, and marine equipment
Prepare parts, stage materials, and assemble components for new boat hoists and marine installations
Assist with weekly vendor pickups and deliveries
Properly handle, store, and organize dock, hoist, and marine inventory
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment at all times
Inspect materials for damage, shortages, or quality concerns and address issues promptly
Operate yard equipment safely, including forklifts, tractors, hauling trailers, and hand tools
Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities (Working Supervisor Role)
Lead the yard team by working alongside employees and setting the standard for quality, safety, and productivity
Act as a hands-on point of support for yard staff and installation crews, stepping in as needed to keep work moving
Verify that materials, equipment, and loads are correctly prepared before crews depart, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Support and mentor yard employees by demonstrating proper techniques, safe equipment operation, and yard procedures
Help maintain accountability by checking work for quality, organization, and adherence to company standards
Identify workflow issues or inefficiencies and address them in real time through hands-on problem solving
Reinforce safety practices through daily actions and jobsite awareness
Communicate yard needs, challenges, and improvement opportunities to management
Equipment & Safety
Safely operate forklifts, tractors, trailers, and other equipment commonly used in yard operations
Ensure tools and equipment are used properly and report maintenance or repair needs
Promote a strong safety-first culture within the yard
Qualifications
Experience in yard, warehouse, construction, marine, dock, or similar hands-on environments
Ability to perform physical work in an outdoor setting
Experience operating or willingness to learn forklifts, tractors, trailers, and power tools
General mechanical knowledge or strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to lead by example and take ownership of daily outcomes
Strong time management and organizational skills
Ability to adapt to changing schedules and priorities
Professional attitude and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
Previous lead, foreman, or working supervisor experience
Marine, dock, marina, or heavy equipment experience
Forklift certification or equipment operation experience
