Northrop Grumman Mission Systems - Field Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to be a technical leader for our Hale RQ4 UAV sensor Field Engineering team located in Sigonella Italy. Our development and sustainment operations are managed from our Linthicum, Maryland location. With the ability to deploy on a long-term assignment to the Main Operating Base (MOB) located at Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide maintenance support and physical control for the Hale RQ4 sensor
- Perform periodic quarterly physical inspections of the Hale RQ4 sensor
- Create detailed trouble reports for the Hale RQ4 sensor
- Provide support for emergency divert activities in support of security for the Hale RQ4 sensor
- Analyzes system performance, reliability and consumption data of the Hale RQ4 sensor and make recommendations to sustain sensor performance
- Identify engineering and/or logistics solutions to support the Hale RQ4 sensor.
- Analyze customer requirements and will assist with conducting trade studies to propose various courses of action when needed.
- Perform technical planning to support various integration and test activities in both lab and aircraft environments
- Accomplishes software/hardware testing to ensure functional requirements are met
- Interface with various customers including military and prime contractor personnel

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical field and 5 years' experience; 3 years with a Master's degree
- Ability to deploy to the Main Operating Base (MOB) located at Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella.
- Demonstrated experience with analysis of RF systems performance and associated requirement analysis.
- Understanding of the fundamentals and theory of RF Systems.
- Ability to perform technical planning as well as hands on testing of RF/digital systems as required.
- Must have an active Secret Clearance investigated within the last 5 years, with the ability to gain Top Secret and program specific clearances. U.S. Citizenship is a pre-requisite.
Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical field and 9 years' experience; 7 years with a Master's degree
- Ability to deploy to the Main Operating Base (MOB) located at Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella.
- Demonstrated experience with analysis of RF systems performance and associated requirement analysis.
- Understanding of the fundamentals and theory of RF Systems.
- Ability to perform technical planning as well as hands on testing of RF/digital systems as required.
- Must have an active Secret Clearance investigated within the last 5 years, with the ability to gain Top Secret and program specific clearances. U.S. Citizenship is a pre-requisite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experienced with sustainment related analysis of airborne radar systems
- Experience with USAF or NATO sustainment efforts on airborne radar systems hardware and software
- Technical Team Leadership skills/abilities
- Experience with Hale RQ4 radar operations and maintenance related activities
- Ability to interface with customer technical and leadership personnel at all levels
Salary Range: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
