About the Role
Our client, a well-established residential and commercial real estate developer based in Northern New Jersey, is seeking a seasoned Director of Construction to lead and oversee their growing portfolio of projects. The Director of Construction will be responsible for managing all phases of construction, from preconstruction through project delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a senior leadership role that requires a strong blend of strategic vision, operational management, and hands-on construction expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive-level oversight of all construction projects across residential and commercial developments.
- Manage project teams, including project managers, superintendents, and field staff, ensuring alignment with company goals and standards.
- Oversee preconstruction activities, including estimating, budgeting, scheduling, design coordination, and subcontractor selection.
- Lead bid leveling, contract negotiations, and subcontractor/vendor management.
- Ensure compliance with all building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Monitor project performance, financials, and reporting to ensure goals are met.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with ownership, architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop internal team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive strategies for efficiency, cost savings, and value engineering across all projects.
- Represent the company as a senior leader in meetings with investors, municipal agencies, and community stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 12 years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong track record of successfully delivering multifamily residential and/or commercial projects in the NJ/NY metro area.
- Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.).
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Deep understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while overseeing multiple active projects.
Compensation
- Base salary range: $175,000 $225,000 (commensurate with experience).
