What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custom Cabinet Builder position at Northland Woodworks?
Why Join Northland Woodworks?
- 100% Shop Production: Focus strictly on fine fabrication and machining. No job-site installs, no site emergencies, and minimal-to-no delivery driving.
- Stable, Long-Term Home: We build a low-turnover environment where craftsman stay, thrive, and retire.
- Voice in the Shop: You get a real seat at the table to suggest tool upgrades, refine shop layouts, and improve workflows.
- Top Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, generous paid time off, and all tools provided.
About the Role
We build high-end custom cabinetry where precision, modern hardware technology, and continuous improvement drive everything we do. We are seeking a versatile shop professional who is as comfortable working at the bench as they are setting up a CNC router, mastering new European hardware systems, or working with complex sheet materials and solid surfaces.
What You’ll Do
- Bench Fabrication & Machining: Build custom cabinets, sub-assemblies, and high-end components. Manage CNC setup, light programming/tooling, cut-list optimization, and routine machine care.
- Modern Hardware Systems: Work with millimeter precision using leading European hardware (Blum, Häfele, Salice) and evolving material lines.
- Process Improvement: Follow and contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), optimize shop layouts, and help streamline manufacturing steps to keep the crew winning.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3 Years in Custom Cabinetry: Solid background in bench fabrication, fine joinery, and shop machinery setup.
- Hardware & Tech Fluency: Experience with complex hardware, CNC operation, and/or CAD/CAM light programming.
- Blueprint & Precision Math: Ability to read shop drawings effortlessly, calculate cut lists, and work seamlessly in both standard fractions (1/32") and metric units.
- Mindset: Highly organized, proactive, process-minded, and eager to learn evolving shop technology.
(If you rely on shortcuts, resist modern shop software/tech, or dislike learning new processes, this role will not be a good fit.)
