Job Summary

The Coding Quality Educator is responsible for supporting the accuracy, consistency, and compliance of medical coding across the organization. This role provides education, training, and ongoing support to coding staff, providers, and other stakeholders. The Coding Quality Educator conducts coding audits, identifies opportunities for improvement, develops training materials, and collaborates with coding manager to enhance coding quality and workflow efficiency. This position plays a key role in ensuring high quality documentation, optimal reimbursement, and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.

Compensation

We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The wage range for this position is $67,496.00 - $95,284.80 annually. This range reflects the base salary for this position.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop clear, effective training materials, job aids, and learning resources for coding staff.
  • Analyze audit findings and collaborate with the Coding Denials and Appeals Specialist to identify denial trends and use these insights to develop targeted, data driven, compliant education.
  • Participate in new coder onboarding by providing foundational training and competency assessments.
  • Lead onboarding and ongoing education for providers on coding and documentation requirements, ensuring consistent understanding of organizational standards and payer expectations.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by offering clarification, education, and follow-up guidance.
  • Monitor industry trends, payer behavior, and regulatory changes to proactively adjust educational strategies.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure updates related to coding quality and documentation standards.
  • Perform monthly audits of at least five charts per coder to assess coding accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Track and report education outcomes to demonstrate improvements in coding accuracy and denial reduction.
  • Provide guidance during system upgrades or EHR changes to ensure coding accuracy is maintained.
  • Serve as an ongoing resource for coders by addressing questions, clarifying guidelines, and supporting complex case reviews.
  • Maintain organized documentation of training activities, audit results, and educational follow-up to support compliance and departmental reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of professional and outpatient/facility coding experience.
  • One of the following credentials: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), or a Health Information Technology degree with RHIT or RHIA registration.
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Prior exposure to coding audits, quality review, or education (formal educator experience preferred but not always required).
  • Strong presentation skills and experience delivering education in virtual and in person formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health information management.
  • Advanced or multiple coding certifications (e.g., CCS, CCS-P, CPC-I, RHIA, RHIT, CDIP).
  • 7 years of coding experience, including exposure to both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Prior experience in coding education, training, or instructional design.
  • Experience performing coding audits, quality reviews, or denial analysis.
  • Familiarity with CDI practices.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 80 hours per two-week pay period
  • Monday-Friday Business Hours
  • Remote work setting, but must live in the state of Minnesota
