Duties
- Perform ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure (tonometry), and eye refraction to assist in diagnosing eye conditions.
- Operate and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools with precision and adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Assist with patient intake procedures by collecting medical histories, updating electronic health records (EHR/EHR), and recording vital signs accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Support ophthalmologists during examinations by preparing patients, managing clinical supplies, and ensuring a sterile environment through proper aseptic techniques.
- Conduct routine clinical tasks including taking vital signs, performing basic eye tests, and assisting with optical measurements like eye refraction.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR), ensuring all patient data is accurately documented, organized, and securely stored following medical records protocols.
- Provide exceptional patient service by explaining procedures clearly, answering questions professionally, and ensuring a comfortable experience during all ophthalmic examinations.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred; strong background in medical terminology and anatomy knowledge is essential.
- Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and tonometry devices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to perform ophthalmic patient examinations accurately while demonstrating excellent patient service skills.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently.
- Strong understanding of physiology related to the eye and visual system; optical experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a healthcare team while providing direct patient care.
- Ability to operate medical equipment safely following aseptic techniques; attention to detail is critical for success in this role.
