Chico, CA Part Time
POSTED ON 11/27/2025

Job Description

Position Summary:

NVIH is seeking a flexible, mission-driven Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as a Rover Provider at our Children's Health Center. This position provides high-quality patient care under the direction of supervising physicians while offering the opportunity to support multiple care teams. This role is designed for providers who value variety, independence, and the ability to step into different clinic environments as needs arise.

The provider hired for this position will see pediatric patients when a regular employee at NVIH is away on leave (PTO, sick leave, CME, or parental leave). Because we have a large team, a need for coverage arises quite frequently. This position is not assigned guaranteed weekly work hours; however, we anticipate an average of approximately 1.5 days per week over time, depending on clinic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain detailed patient history and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Document history, exam findings, and assessments accurately in the medical record.
  • Order and interpret appropriate ancillary services (e.g., X-ray, lab work, pulmonary function tests).
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Prescribe treatments and medications consistent with established clinic protocols.
  • Participate in NVIH's Quality Assurance Program and contribute to performance improvement activities.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and revising NP/PA protocols and standards of care.
  • Manage a typical workload of 12-14 patients per shift (7-8 hour workday) under normal conditions.
  • Provide coverage across multiple NVIH sites as needed.

All NVIH Employees Are Expected To

  • Provide the highest possible level of service to patients.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperative effort among employees.
  • Maintain safe practices.
  • Abide by current NVIH's policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Current California licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Out-of-state licenses accepted, but must obtain CA licensure within one year.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • DEA registration preferred.
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred for NP applicants.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between clinic locations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in both clinic and community settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age-appropriate care for all age groups.
  • Motivation to enhance patient care and contribute to clinic operations, including participation in meetings, committees, and occasional community events.

Indian Preference. Preference in filling vacancies will be given to qualified Indian applicants in accordance with Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code Section 472 & 473). In other than the above, Northern Valley Indian Health, Inc., is an Equal Opportunity and At Will Employer.
