What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interior Design Project Manager position at Northern VA Community College?
Eligible for one day telework following successful completion of probationary period and approval of supervisor.
The Interior Design Project Manager is responsible for managing projects with an emphasis on FF/E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment), interior design, finish selection, move planning and management. The Project Manager is responsible for organizing and executing a wide variety of planning functions. This position is responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, and completion of the project while remaining aligned with the strategy, commitments, and goals of the organization.
Duties and Tasks:
- Will work as a lead in the management of projects such as classroom upgrades, department relocations or reorganizations, creating furniture specification packages, furniture solicitations and installation, minor construction projects like carpet and paint upgrades, abatement and feasibility studies.
- This position will manage small interior construction projects and will be responsible for the planning, design, construction, and closeout of the project.
- This position will plan, budget, monitor, and report on the project with project management tools, sometimes pitching the idea of the project or being assigned to it once it’s been approved.
- Responsible for managing the budget, schedule, and implementation of plans and projects. This includes coordination with external consultants, furniture vendors, contractors, architects, manufacturers, etc.
- Closely coordinate project delivery with the end-users and stakeholders from multiple departments.
- Gather relevant information for the implementation of planning solutions.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of interior design, architecture and engineering disciplines, construction administration.
- Possess an advanced knowledge of MS tools, including Word, Excel and Project
- Possess good customer service and problem solving skill sets.
- Ability to work productively with a wide variety of personnel, to include members of staff of all levels of seniority, both internally and with external stakeholders.
- General knowledge in reading and understanding proposals, plans, contracts, purchase orders, and specifications for all phases of construction
- General knowledge of building materials, costing procedures and the sequential methods of modern construction and maintenance practices, as well as capital construction project delivery methods.
- Understanding of project management principles.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working as a project manager within a project delivery environment.
- Experience in AutoCAD or Revit
- Experience in space planning, ADA codes, commercial furniture (FF&E) and finishes.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Experience working with the Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM)
