What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Technician & Stagehand position at Northern VA Community College?
This position provides first-line technical support for events within the NOVA Event Services department. Event Services operates two performing arts venues in the Northern Virginia region. This position will provide high quality event space, modern equipment and professional technical support for all types of events at both the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center and the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall & Arts Center.

Duties and Tasks:
- Provide technical support for rental groups in the performing arts venues, with activities centered in both of the event venues (Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center and Rachel M Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center).
- Accountable for building security, setting up for events, maintaining a safe and professional working environment.
- Coordinates with on-site custodial staff to make sure all areas are clean during events.
- Reports to the Operations Manager and regularly works collaboratively with other technicians.
- Providing stage support for rental clients, including operation of motorized and counterweight theatrical fly systems, assisting the Audio Engineer with microphone setup and assisting the Lighting Designer with lighting focus.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Must be able to operate a computer lighting control board, sound system, video projectors and cameras.
- Must be able to operate a theatrical fly system.
- Must be able to set up a dance floor and portable sound systems.
- Must be able to climb a catwalk and hang/focus theatrical lighting equipment.
- Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work a varied schedule, including days, nights and weekends.
- Clear communication, both verbally and in writing, is imperative.
- Experience as a professional stagehand or technician in a performing arts venue.
- Experience in customer service
- Experience working in an event center environment.
- Experience with professional audio systems, including digital and analog mixing consoles, wireless microphones, signal flow and routing.
- Experience with theatrical lighting systems, including digital lighting consoles, ability to hang and focus stage lights, circuiting and cabling lighting instruments.
- Experience with motorized and/or counterweight theatrical fly systems of at least 1,000 pounds per arbor.
- Stage management, lighting design, stage rigging, stage carpentry, and audio engineering experience.
Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland or District of Columbia.
